I paid my taxes earlier today. That's right -- I said "paid." I didn't get a cent back which I guess is my reward for being fiscally responsible.
As always, I felt dirty just signing the check.
When I was younger, quite a few people used to make a point of including helpful suggestions with their tax checks. Those suggestions usually boiled down to something along the lines of "Don't use my tax money to build more bombs" or "Feed the homeless."
This always seemed like an obvious waste of time to me. After all, if the government cared about what you wanted, it probably wouldn't be taxing you in the first place.
That said, I have to admit that I actually ended up scrawling "Don't use my tax money to feed Obama's dog" on the back of my check.
I hate to admit it but it actually made me feel a bit better about things.
