For those keeping track, the team eliminated on tonight's episode of The Amazing Race was the "Southern Belle" team (a.k.a. Marisa and Brooke). I must admit to being amazed that it actually took four episodes for this team to actually be the last team to arrive at the "pit stop." That said, Brooke and Marisa were fortunate that they ended their race in New Zealand. I've visisted England, Scotland, and Ireland several times during my life. The summer after I graduated high school, I traveled through Europe (spending most of my time in Italy though finding time to pass through Belgium, France, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and a few other countries on my way there). Three years after that, I took a trip to Greece (and was inspired to write the story Myself, the Girl, and the Bastard From Brazil as a result). On all of these trips outside of my native country, I met a lot of great people. And the majority of them, it seems, turned out to be from New Zealand.
(And not Australia as an attractive young lady named Jayne spent several hours explaining to me one drunken night in Athens...)
