Oh, leave Brian Bonsall alone...

This just in:

Probation for "Family Ties" Bonsall.

That would be Brian Bonsall, better known as Andy Keaton on the old '80s sitcom Family Ties.

(Family Ties is another one of those sitcoms that we never really realized was actually not that funny until after the show ended and the laugh track finally stopped manipulating our minds.)

The article linked above mentions that Bonsall appeared in the film Father Hood.  However, he has another film credit to his name.  Does anyone else out there remember Mikey?

In Mikey, Bonsall plays an adorable little kid who is adopted by a whitebread suburban family after all the other member of his biological family are mysteriously killed.  Of course, what nobody realizes is that Mikey murdered his first family and he's still just as psycho now that he's moved elsewhere.  This little film was later remade as The Good Son (a truly repellent film) and say what you will about Macaulay Culkin, he was no Brian Bonsall.

Actually, Bonsall does a rather good job in the role and Mikey's a rather effective little film that is quite disturbing in some scenes.  The film's opening, in which Mikey drowns his little sister and then proceeds to take out the rest of his family is actually very horrific.  As well, the film's conclusion -- in which a handful of likable characters are rather casually dispatched, is very well done.

As for now, what can one do other than hope that Brian Bonsall and girlfriend successfully move on from all this and apologize for the fact that, as the result of playing one iconic character, Mr. Bonsall's personal problems have now become the stuff of headlines?
